Bay Meadows Race Track

We performed a geotechnical investigation for the master plan development at Bay Meadows Race Track, encompassing the existing horse race track, barns, and parking lots. The proposed development consists of new residential, mixed-use, and office buildings; a community park; dry storage pond; underground utilities; and roadways and parking lots.

We reviewed existing geotechnical data, explored subsurface conditions to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions, and performed laboratory tests and engineering analyses to develop recommendations for earthwork and grading. Our team addressed suitability of site soil for reuse as fill and developed conclusions and recommendations regarding lime treatment of expansive soil, building foundation type(s), foundation settlement, site seismicity and seismic hazards. We also developed recommendations regarding earth pressures for temporary shoring and permanent below-grade walls, subgrade preparation for slab-on-grade floors, and surcharging.
