Planned Pier 70 Mixed-Use Opportunity Area, Port of San Francisco
- Client: Port of San Francisco
- Location: San Francisco, California
- Project Manager: Michael A. Chamberlain
Principal-in-Charge: Jeffrey F. Ludlow - Regulation: San Francisco Department of Public Health and City of San Francisco Article 22A (Maher) Ordinance
Treadwell & Rollo performed environmental services for the planned Pier 70 Mixed Use Opportunity Area, 65 acres largely comprised of fill, to resolve data gaps and assist the Port in planning for hazardous materials issues related to development. Since the 1890s, the area was used for manufacture, maintenance and repair of marine vessels. Residual chemicals exist throughout the site.
Our work was reviewed and approved by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, satisfying the requirements of Article 22A (Maher Ordinance) of the San Francisco Public Health Code. We evaluated the chemical quality of environmental media likely to be encountered during future development and use. Comparing the data to applicable human health and ecological health risk criteria, our engineers provided recommendations for mitigating estimated risks.
