Treadwell & Rollo performed a geotechnical investigation and provided geotechnical services during construction for San Francisco’s new affordable housing project at 330 and 335 Berry Street. Each site will have a five-story building consisting of four stories of light-gauge metal framing constructed over one-story concrete podiums that will cover the entire property.
During the geotechnical investigation, we encountered liquefiable fill and weak, compressible Bay Mud. To mitigate liquefaction potential, our engineers provided recommendations for Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) to improve the site. We provided pile foundation recommendations for support of the buildings.
The effectiveness of the RIC was evaluated by performing pre-treatment and post-treatment Cone Penetration Testing. Services during construction included observations during RIC, indicator pile driving, production pile installation and earthwork operations.
